Saint Thomas, VI – After struggling from the floor in Friday night's match-up against the University of the Virgin Islands, the Grace Christian University Tigers completed a successful 180 on Saturday night, improving drastically on both ends of the floor and defeating the Buccaneers 75-59.
The Tigers led 13-0 to start the game, and finished off the first half with a 45-20 lead. They would maintain a comfortable lead throughout the entire second half, finishing with the 16 point win, which was a 32 point swing from Friday night's result.
Austin Jackson had a monster game for the Tigers, with a team-high 27 points and 10 rebounds. Point guard
Brandon Winchester-Jones scored 22 points, pulled down 7 rebounds, and led the Tigers with 5 assists.
Assistant Coach
Lee Ash was proud of the team and how they answered the call to cap off the trip with a great game as a unit defensively.
"The guys did a great job of executing the game plan and bringing energy, especially on defense," commented Ash. "[Keith] Gilmore is a great player and we made him work for every one of his points tonight."
Keoante Blackamore and
Kierson Watts shared time guarding Gilmore and held him to 21 points on 7-20 shooting, after he scored 37 points on Friday night to lead the Bucs.
The Tigers move to 11-11 on the year, and will return home next week for two home NCCAA games against Welch College on Friday and then Campbellsville University-Somerset on Saturday.
