Gallatin, TN – Both the Grace Christian University women's and men's basketball teams notched victories last night over NCCAA DII regional opponent Welch College.
The women kicked things off with a 69-65 win after being in control most of the game and withholding a late comeback from the Flames thanks to a big three-point shot from
Emily Libey and free throws from
Bre VanVleet with under a minute to play.
Megan George and
Emily Libey carried the scoring load for the Tigers, finishing with 25 points and 22 points, respectively.
Ashley Hoek dominated the glass with 20 rebounds, in addition to 6 blocks on the defensive end.
The men's team built a 44-21 halftime lead and finished with a 88-64 win.
Kellum Bridgeforth led the Tigers with 14 points, and all five Grace starters recorded double-figures in the scoring column. Jarius Shumper and
Spencer Grant both notched double-doubles for the Tigers, with 12 points each and 12 and 11 rebounds, respectively.
Both teams return to the court tonight at 5:00 and 7:00 pm CST to face the Welch Flames for a second time before the women move on to Johnson University (TN) on Saturday and the men travel to Campbellsville-Somerset (KY).
