Defense propels Tigers to 1-0 win at Faith

Ankeny, IA – A spectacular defensive effort from goalkeeper Amiah Lake and the Grace Christian University Tigers propelled them to their second straight 1-0 victory on the road over Faith Baptist Bible College.

A free kick from freshman Elia Guillen Neri would prove to be the difference in the game, as the rest of the game the Tigers defense was able to hold off a quality performance by the Faith Eagles that produced 14 shots and 11 shots on goal.

Head Coach Mike Riemersma spoke on the game and the importance of his defense stepping up.

"Today was interesting to say the least. Faith really came ready to play today and they took it to us for much of the game. We had a difficult time today linking up and generating much offense. Fortunately, Elia was spot on with her free kick and that was the difference in the game. Not having Liv [Alivia TerMeer] today after getting dinged up yesterday was difficult for us to adjust to given the quick turnaround time today. You could definitely tell we were playing our third game in four days. We just didn't have our legs for about the last 20-25 minutes. Aimee's brilliant save with about 4 minutes to go pretty much sealed the deal. Faith has a really nice team and I like the way they play. They possess the ball and are very organized and play a nice physical game. It's a lot of fun to play them. We were very fortunate today but our defense was outstanding and didn't give an inch. Very proud of the back line and our goalkeeper today. We needed for them to step up today and they did just that."

The Tigers, now 12-5 on the year, close out their regular season at Cornerstone University Monday night at 7:00 pm under the lights across town.
