Wyoming, MI – Despite a magnificent third quarter comeback over the weekend at the Aldrich Athletic Center, the Grace women's basketball team fell to Bethel University (IN) by a score of 88-73.
After falling behind 43-32 at the halftime break and still finding themselves 11 back with 5:00 remaining in the third quarter, the Tigers lit a fire within their team and also in the home crowd, as the ground was shaking after a 9-0 run to close out the quarter closed the gap to 61-59 headed into the fourth. The Pilots' non-stop full-court pressure and substitutions every 50 seconds of play eventually would wear out the Tigers late in the game, though, as they would outscore Grace 27-14 in the final period to go home with an 88-73 victory.
Ashley Hoek recorded her fifth straight double double for the Tigers with 21 points and 19 rebounds to go along with her 5 blocks on the day.
Emily Libey continued her quality scoring output this season with 17 points. As a team, the Tigers dished out 26 assists led by 7 helpers from
Megan George.
"I thought we fought hard," said Grace Head Coach
Ashley Xiong Vang. "The team gave all their effort and that's what we asked of them. We had runs in the game that I thought gave us a shot of taking over the game but eventually Bethel's runs had us beat. We had an explosive 3rd quarter but we got rebounded, turned the ball over and just couldn't finish shots we normally would.
Ashley Hoek had a phenomenal game with another double-double and just is having a great year. We look to bounce back in the win column against Glen Oaks on Friday."
Now sitting at 5-4 on the year, Grace returns to the floor against Glen Oaks Community College at the Aldrich Athletic Center this Friday at 5:00 pm.
