Berrien Springs, MI – Despite it not being their best effort Wednesday evening, the Grace men's basketball team escaped with a 66-64 win over Andrews University thanks to a buzzer-beating up-and-under finish from
Parker Neu on an assist from
Kellum Bridgeforth.
The Tigers led comfortably for the majority of the first half, but a lapse in the middle of the second half would allow the Cardinals to storm back into the game and set the stage for the photo-finish. The Cardinals would have the opportunity to take a 65-64 lead with 7 seconds remaining with a free throw, but they missed the free throw and the Tigers secured a rebound and eventually got the ball to Neu for the game winning basket.
Jarius Shumpert was the only Tiger in double digits scoring with 14 points on the night.
"It was certainly evident that we had taken six days off without practice and then only went one day before the game," said Grace Head Coach
Gary Bailey. "Give credit to Andrews. They were scrappy and made shots. Hopefully we have shaken off the holiday rust and can get back in stride this weekend."
The Tigers are back to .500 at 5-5 on the year, and they will head out to Iowa for two games this weekend against Emmaus Bible College Friday and Faith Baptist Bible College Saturday.
