Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Grace women top Cornerstone for first time ever

Wyoming, MI – It was a memorable evening for the Grace Christian University women's basketball team on Tuesday, as they defeated Cornerstone University for the first time in program history, 62-57. The Tigers led and controlled most of the game, and withstood a late run from the Golden Eagles to secure the victory.

Albeit the series only begun in 2017 between the two teams, the excitement of the Grace team was evident when the final buzzer sounded on their first win over the Golden Eagles – many of whom have been a part of a couple close match-ups in the past couple years that did not go their way.

"We played some of our best basketball," said Head Coach Ashley Xiong Vang. "Though our turnovers were more than what I hoped for, we were able to finish with the big win. We knew that if we wanted a chance to win we could not afford to take any plays off. Freshman Taejah Cross started off hot for us scoring the first few points and we never looked back. This was a collective team win from all of our players to our coaching staff and I cannot be more happy to be a part of this team making Grace history!"

Vang went on to praise her captains (Ashley Hoek, Emily Libey, and Megan George) for leading the team in a big way – as they found themselves at the top of every major stat category.

George led the Tigers with 17 points, followed by Libey and Hoek with 14 points each. Hoek added team highs of 17 rebounds and 7 blocks – her seventh straight double double. Libey and George also distributed the rock well, recording 7 and 6 assists, respectively.

The Tigers now are 7-4 on the year and will have some time off before traveling to Nashville at the end of next week for two games in their NCCAA region against Campbellsville Harrodsburg and Welch College.
