Wyoming, MI – The Grace Tigers' men's soccer team kicked off their 2021 season on a hot and humid Tuesday evening at Velting Field against a very talented Indiana Wesleyan side. After a very competitive first half that saw multiple chances from both sides, the Wildcats were able to pull away from the Tigers in the second half, heading home with a 4-0 win when it was all said and done.
The Wildcats outshot the Tigers 13-5, and both teams 3 three corner kicks on the night. Seven Tigers saw their first action of their career, including newcomer
Luis Vicario who recorded 4 saves in goal.
"We have a strong schedule this year and we knew this first match would be a real test," said Grace Head Coach
Dustin Buchanan. "Playing an opponent with the quality of IWU, you can't make the mistakes we made and not be punished. The positive is that those mistakes are pretty clear and can be fixed. The first half the boys found their feet and created some really good opportunities. Our center backs were exceptional in the first half and
Camden Bierling had a fantastic match overall. We will have more of these tests and it will only continue to make us stronger."
Next up for the men's soccer team is Kentucky Christian University, another challenging opponent coming to town this Saturday for a 2:30 pm start at Velting Field.
