Wyoming, MI – The Grace Christian University Tigers defeated #5 seed Welch College (TN) Thursday evening at the Aldrich Athletic Center, using a big second half to open things up in an 86-67 victory.
The Tigers started slow and fell behind 7-2, but quickly put a 16-2 run together to take an 18-19 advantage midway through the first half. The Flames eventually chipped away and tied things back at 30-30 before the Tigers took a 38-34 lead into the break. The second half was all Tigers, outscoring Welch 48-33 and leaving no doubt in their pursuit for a spot in Friday night's 7:00 pm semifinal game against Great Lakes Christian College.
After being out for a couple weeks due to injury,
Kellum Bridgeforth led the Tigers with 21 points, 7 rebounds, and 5 assists.
Kierson Watts followed with 19 and 8, and
Zac Yorke added 11 and 6.
After the game, Bridgeforth and Watts were awarded 2
nd-Team All-Region honors, and
Jarius Shumpert and
Parker Neu garnered honorable mention.
Gerard Oray,
Thomas Hill, and Bridgeforth all received the Mideast Legacy Award as well.
