Wyoming, MI - The Tigers dominated in their opening weekend versus Welch College and Boyce College, going 2-0 and only dropping one set over both games.
The matchup against Welch was highly anticipated, as the Flames upset Grace at the Aldrich in last year's regional tournament to end the Tigers' season. Grace started the first set ahead and never looked back. Leading the charge for the Tigers was freshman
Liberty Laker with 11 kills on the day and 5 blocks. Junior,
Morgan Martin, also served 5 aces in the match. Grace would win the three sets by scores of 25-18, 25-13, and 25-16.Â
The following day also saw a challenging opponent from Grace Christian's former region, Boyce College. Grace took the first set in what appeared to be another dominating performance, yet the Bulldogs wouldn't go away so easily. Boyce won the second set by a margin of 25-19 and Grace needed to respond. Senior,
Eleyna Zichterman, stepped up for the Tigers in the back row, digging 22 balls and reversing the momentum back in the Tigers' favor.
Morgan Martin would finish with a team leading 11 kills on the day, while senior,
Kiersten Palmbos, owned the largest share of assists at 15. Grace would go on to win the match in four sets by scores of 25-19, 19-25, 25-17, and 25-17.
The Tigers will be back in action on Tuesday, September 5th at Lake Michigan College at 6:30pm looking to continue their hot start to the year.Â
