Track & Field Kicks off 2024 Strong at GVSU

Allendale, MI - The Grace Christian University track & field teams kicked off the new year strong as they resumed their indoor schedule at Grand Valley State University for Saturday's Bob Eubanks Open.  The meet, featuring Grace, GVSU, Cornerstone, and Aquinas College, proved to be a great opportunity for the Tigers to return from winter break and continue the momentum they started back in December.

Freshman Aidan Gansert (Fort Wayne, IN) continued his march to rewrite the record books when he, yet again, broke the indoor shot put school record. With a best throw of 11.93m, Gansert earned a 3rd place overall finish of the shot put "open division". Seniors Kent Herring (Evart, MI) and Angel Becerra (Allendale, MI) also had strong efforts in shot put, with Herring earning a new indoor personal record in the event.

Herring also had a superb race in the men's 400m competition, finishing 4th overall with a strong pass in the last 70m, crossing the finish line in a time of 56.56.

Also of note, Ben Bird (Allendale, MI) continued a strong junior season, coming within one second of his personal best time in the 3,000m race with a time of 10:39.01.

The track & field squads will return to action at 5 PM this Friday, January 19, at Aquinas College in Grand Rapids.
