Tigers Kick-Off Track & Field Season at SVSU

University Center, MI - The Grace Christian University Track & Field teams began their 2025 Indoor Track & Field season at Saginaw Valley State University this past Friday and Saturday, building upon the momentum they had created last year with two new school records and a host of new Tigers making their debut.

Highlights:

  • Freshman Austin Engel (Spring Lake, MI) has been looking forward to his chance to rewrite the record books at Grace since last spring.  On Friday, he broke the school records in the 60m dash (7.62s) and long jump (5.81m), both records that had stood since 2019 (Justin McMaster and Adam Javed, respectively).

  • Senior Kent Herring (Evart, MI) picked up from his 6th place finish in the decathlon at Nationals last season with a strong performance in the men's heptathlon.  Solid results in the 60m dash, high jump, pole vault, and the 1k run propelled Herring to 2,916 pts, far out-pacing his total in this same meet last season.

  • Freshman Kaylee Morris (Mancelona, MI) ran the 3rd fastest time in school history in the women's 60m dash, crossing the line in 9.05s.

  • Freshman Ian Hinkle (Grand Ledge, MI) ran the 2nd fastest time in school history for the men's 3k.  Hinkle battled back and forth with competitors from Siena Heights University, finishing in a time of 10:32.24.

The Track & Field squads will next compete on Saturday, January 11, 2025 at Aquinas College in Grand Rapids. The Tigers will take advantage of the winter break weeks to build off of their results from SVSU while eyeing the qualifying standards for the NCCAA Indoor National Championships in February.
