Ann Arbor, MI - In their final competition before their trip to the NCCAA National Championships on May 6 - 10, the Grace Christian University track & field teams made their final push at the Legacy Invitational hosted by Concordia University Ann Arbor. For some Tigers, this was a chance to fine tune their performances and, for others, it was one last chance to claim a ticket to Nationals.
The two-day meet began on Friday with javelin, hammer, long jump and triple jumps events competing. The remaining field events and all track events were then contested on Saturday. 20 different colleges were scheduled to compete in the meet, as well as six different club teams, which offered a perfect opportunity for competition for athletes to hit their goals. Conditions on Friday were windy and cool but Saturday brought humid, warm, and breezy weather, which helped prepare the Tigers for the conditions they might expect in South Carolina for Nationals.
Men's Highlights:
-
Freshman Aidan Gansert (Fort Wayne, IN) hit a new personal best throw in javelin at 38.02m, setting a new school record in that event. Gansert also threw a new collegiate personal best distance in discus at 28.05m.
-
Senior Angel Beccera (Allendale, MI) had a great day in discus, setting a new personal record in that event in his last regular season meet as a senior at 27.40m.
Women's Highlights:
-
Sophomore Maty Temrowski (Fenton, MI) had a breakthrough race in the 5,000m where she finished 5th overall and led the Tigers with a personal best time of 21:23.16. Temrowski's effort moved her up to 3rd all-time for the 5k on the outdoor track in school history, just behind teammate Alyssa Gennety and her distance Coach Kimberly Proctor.
The Tigers now have a final week of practice before preparing for the NCCAA Outdoor Track & Field National Championships in Columbia, South Carolina from May 6-10. Stay tuned for further details on Nationals as the meet approaches.
