Tigers Tested in Grand Rapids Hall of Fame Classic

Grand Rapids, MI - The Grace Christian University Track & Field teams we tested at the "Grand Rapids Hall of Fame Classic" this past Friday at Aquinas College.  Coming off of a big meet at GVSU the week before, the Tigers struggled to eclipse their marks from last week.

"It was not for a lack of effort," commented Grace head coach Gerry Verwey.  "It just wasn't our night, outside of a few exceptions.  With that said, it's not like we had a horrible night either. In reality, our results were pretty much the same as GVSU but our athletes cared so much that many of them were disappointed in the final results," added Verwey.  "Ultimately, we had to remind our team that the improvements will come."

Teams:  Aquinas College, Cornerstone University, Davenport University, Grace Christian University, Hope College, and Muskegon Community College

Highlights:

  • Freshman Kaylee Morris (Mancelona, MI) did have a big night for the Tigers as she ran a new personal record in the 60m dash, finishing in 8.89 seconds.

  • Freshman Jude Vargo (Penn Hills, PA) ran a solid 400m race, finishing in 1:01.67, and scoring 3 points for the Tigers.

  • Senior Ben Bird (Allendale, MI) had a quality effort in the men's 1K race, scoring 1 point for Grace, with a finishing time of 3:24.42.

  • Freshman Austin Engle (Spring Lake, MI) also scored a point for the Tigers in the men's long jump competition (5.66m).  He also had a solid 60m dash race (7.63 seconds).

The track & field squads will now look ahead to the NCCAA Indoor Track & Field National Championships on February 7-8 in Cedarville, Ohio.
