Friday:
Grand Rapids, MI - Women's volleyball headed to Kuyper College to take on the Maranatha University Sabercats for their first of three matches over the weekend. The Tigers would play the sabercats before hosting a tri-match Saturday at the Aldrich Athletic Center.
The Tigers fought hard in the first set but the Sabercats would come away with a 25-19 victory to open up the match. But the Tigers would respond quickly and it would be all Tigers the rest of the evening. The Tigers would go on to win the next three by finals of 25-23, 25-20, and 25-9 to secure the win in the first of three weekend matches.
Alexa Borgman led the way offensively with 19 kills, and Madison Postma and Chloe Harig each collected 3 service aces. Setter Delaney Sommers collected 22 assists, and on the defensive side Libero Kyrsten Nolen tallied 19 digs in the TIgers 3-1 victory.
Saturday:
Wyoming, MI - The Tigers hosted Moody Bible Institute as the first match of the afternoon. The Tigers came away with the win in the last meeting between these two teams in a 5 set shootout a week ago. The Tigers come into this match with a 5-6 record and are looking for the chance to get back to .500 on the year going into the back half of the season.
The Tigers got off to a slow start in the first set, but were able to rally for a late comeback to take a 1 set to 0 lead. However, Moody would respond and take the next 3 sets sealing the victory. Alexa Borgman led the way offensively with 18 kills in the match, followed by Madison Postma who tallied 11, and Delaney Sommers collected 28 assists. Defensively, Kyrsten Nolen collected 24 digs for the Tigers.
The Tigers second and final match of the day came against Kuyper college. This would be the first time these two teams have met this season. The Tigers got off to another hot start and quickly put Kuyper away in the first set by a score of 25-14. The second set had a bit more back and forth as both teams capitalized on a couple of miscues, but the Tigers would ultimately come away with a 25-22 victory.
The Tigers went into the third set looking for their second sweep of the season. The Tigers continued to fire on all cylinders and came away with a 25-18 win completing the sweep. Alexa Borgman collected 14 kills, and Madison Postma recorded 12. Delaney Sommers tallied 26 assists, and defensively Kyrsten Nolen recorded 17 digs.
After the weekend the Tigers improved their record to 6-7 overall, and 4-3 in conference play. The Tigers look to get back to the .500 mark on Tuesday, October 7 as they travel to Andrews University in Berrien Springs, Michigan. Visit
