Grand Rapids, MI - The Tigers headed on the road to Kuyper College to take on their cross town rivals. This would be a much anticipated rematch for the Tigers as they fell to Kuyper at home earlier this year. This would also potentially be the last time the Tigers would take the court against coach Gary Bailey who had previously coached at Grace for 17 before coaching at Kuyper the last 3 years.
The Cougars would jump out to an early lead and seemingly command the pace of the game. The Tigers would pull closer towards the break and would find a way to bring it within one with a score of 42-43 heading into the locker room at the half.
With Brayden Gable leading the scoring, the Tigers would remain in the game down the stretch. With under 7 minutes left in the game there were several lead changes, and just under the one minute mark the Tigers would tie the game at 81 a piece. The Tigers had a chance to win it at the buzzer but came up short, sending the game into OT.
OT turned out to be more of the same as both teams were battling back and forth for an advantage. With under a minute to go Kuyper would take a 92-90 lead. The Tigers had another opportunity to win it with a three at the buzzer but the attempt was no good giving Kuyper the win.
Brayden Gable led the scoring for the Tigers with 21 points and 9 rebounds. Keontae Richards followed closely with 18, and Aiden Burns added 16 of his own.
With the loss the Tigers fall to 9-10 on the year and end their three game winning streak. The Tigers get an immediate chance to bounce back as they take on the Maranatha Baptist University Sabercats at home on Thursday January 15, 2026 at 7pm.
