WYOMING, Mich. – The Grace Christian University men's basketball team opened the 2026-27 season on a winning note Friday evening, defeating Bryant & Stratton College 69-63 at the Aldrich Athletic Center.
The Tigers jumped out to a 31-25 halftime advantage and maintained their six-point lead through the second half to secure the season-opening victory under fifth-year Head Coach Ryan Krombeen.
Brad Coleman and Tucker Loynes led the offensive attack with 15 points apiece. Loynes provided a big spark off the bench, shooting 6-of-10 from the field and connecting on three triples. Tyler Davis added 14 points, knocking down three three-pointers of his own, while Montrel Oliver chipped in 12 points and two blocks.
Jordan VanKlompenberg led Grace on the glass with eight rebounds, while Trey Sluiter dished out a team-high five assists.
The Tigers' defensive pressure proved to be the difference-maker, forcing 19 Bryant & Stratton turnovers while collecting 12 steals. Grace also connected on nine three-pointers compared to just two for the visitors, helping overcome a 40-28 rebounding disadvantage.
Grace finished the evening shooting 40% from the field and 37.5% from beyond the arc, while holding Bryant & Stratton to just 15.4% shooting from three-point range.
The victory gives the Tigers a 1-0 start as they begin a challenging nonconference schedule featuring several NCAA Division I and Division II opponents.
