Wyoming, MI – The Grace Christian University women's soccer team battled Andrews University to a 1-1 draw Tuesday afternoon at Velting Field.
Andrews struck first in the 34th minute when Ruta Jankovic found the back of the net to give the Cardinals a 1-0 advantage. The Tigers went into halftime trailing by one before creating more opportunities offensively in the second half.
Grace's persistence paid off in the 75th minute. After earning a penalty kick on a handball, sophomore Natalie Johnson stepped up and converted to even the game at 1-1. Johnson provided much of the Tigers' offensive pressure throughout the afternoon, finishing with four shots, including three on goal.
The Grace defense kept Andrews off the scoreboard for the entire second half to preserve the tie. Goalkeeper Kenna Hill put together a strong performance in net, recording seven saves while allowing just one goal in 90 minutes of action. Grace finished the game with five shots, putting four of them on goal.
The Tigers have a quick turnaround as they travel to Watertown, Wisconsin, to take on Maranatha Baptist University on Thursday, October 8 at 2:00 p.m. CST.
