Tigers fall in Championship game, finish as NCCAA National Runner-Up

Kissimmee, FL - The Lady Tigers fell to the Bob Jones University Bruins in a very hard fought NCCAA DII championship game on Saturday night, 2-0.  The Tigers were able to put up 8 shots compared to 14 from the Bruins, but could not find the goal against the stifling Bob Jones defensive line.  Senior Debbie Pekel and sophomores Alicia Contreras and Alex Pelley were awarded All-Tournament team.

The Lady Tigers finish what will go down as the best season in program history with a 14-7 final record.

Head Coach Scott Teesdale and senior forward Debbie Pekel both briefly spoke on the experience at the end of the week.

"This trip to Nationals had been a great experience.  We were able to have a fun day at Busch Gardens and when we finally got to play a game I thought we were very sharp.  Against Maranatha in the semis we moved the ball really well but just couldn't finish.  The overtime and penalty kicks were exciting and it was so nice to come out with the win.  We played a tough game in the finals against Bob Jones, they are an excellent team and we held our own against them.  While it is disappointing to lose, I am so proud of the way we battled and were in the game right to the end."
-Scott Teesdale

"It is such a huge blessing and accomplishment for our team to finish as runner-ups for the national tournament. Although we did not win it all, we finished the season as our national rank suggested and proved to be nothing short of a worthy contender for the title. I couldn't have asked for a better way to go out my senior year then what happened to us this past weekend. I am so proud to be a lady tiger".
