Wyoming, MI - For over a month now, the Grace Christian University men's and women's tennis teams have been steadily preparing for their second full season of play, dodging the winter weather with sessions at Premier Indoor Tennis Club. Things kick off for the men in Chicago just two short weeks from now, as they face Dominican University and Concordia University-Chicago on March 15th and 16th in the Windy City. The women start things off on Tuesday, March 19 at Albion College.
After a couple more matches against Alma College and Olivet College, the Tigers will travel to Ohio for another overnight trip where they will face Heidelberg University and Ohio Christian University on April 5th and 6th. The season caps off with three more matches, all against NAIA competition – Cornerstone University for just the women and then Concordia University and Goshen College duals for both the men and women.
Head Coach Ty Jansma has high hopes for the teams to take it up a notch for 2019, as some of the newcomers in 2018 now have a year of experience under their belt.
"Last year, we were a young, inexperienced group," commented Jansma. "We bring back our entire ladies team, and core of our men's team this season. We were also to add some athletic newcomers. We are eager to see the growth and leadership from Sophomore Mikyala Reynolds, and excited to see freshman Ashleigh Welty jump in and contribute right away as well. On the men's side, we've been so encouraged by the progress of our young guys, like freshman Adam Green, as well as returners, such as Caleb Anderson and Lake Serba. We look to take a big step forward, and I am humbled to a part of this team."
