Box Score 2 Albion, MI – The Grace men's and women's tennis teams were both in action Tuesday afternoon, visiting NCAA DIII Albion College. The women recorded the first win of their match, with senior Elenrae Befus and sophomore Regan Befus winning handily at #2 doubles, 8-2. Singles saw some good starts, with freshman Ashleigh Welty running out to a 3-0 lead and Elenrae Befus winning her first set. Regan Befus also had quite the battle at #5 singles, but in the end the Britons would recover to win 8-1 overall.
The Albion men's highly talented team was too much to overcome for the Grace men, as the Tigers fell in every flight. None-the-less, the team fought and got better after facing one of the best teams they will see this season.
"Albion is a very tough team, and they played well," commented Head Coach Ty Jansma. "Our group showed grit on the court. I'm so proud of them for showing up and not backing down when challenged. We had a huge win at #2 doubles for the Befus sisters. There's more to come from this entire group."
Both Tigers squads return to the courts Thursday at 4:00 pm at Alma College.
