Grace Tennis falls to Alma

Alma, MI – Both the men's and women's tennis teams fell to NCAA DIII Alma College on a chilly day yesterday by a score of 9-0.  The nearest win on the women's side was a 8-5 setback for #2 doubles Elenrae Befus and Regan Befus, and on the men's side #2 singles Nick Pilieci put in a great effort and fell just short in both sets 7-5, 7-5.  The rest of the men put up solid fights in their singles matches as well, resulting in a season-high combined 27 game wins across the 6 flights.

After facing two opponents that are contenders in one of the top conferences in NCAA DIII (the MIAA) in their last two matches in Albion and Alma, the Tigers have rapidly improved in a very short period of time.

"Even with the two losses, this week was an indicator of some good things to come," commented Assistant Coach Cory Jamieson.  "Nick Pilieci and Lake Serba played probably their best matches ever today, and it is evident that all 5 of our newcomers are very close to breaking out and catching their stride after their first couple matches.  We have a chance to certainly open some eyes the rest of the season."

The Tigers men and women return to the court to close out the week on Saturday in Battle Creek, Michigan at Minges Creek Athletic Club, taking on the Olivet College Comets at 11:00 am.
