Five freshmen record flight wins at Concordia-Ann Arbor

Ypsilanti, MI – The Grace tennis teams continue to show improvement, falling 6-3 (men) and 8-1 (women) on Wednesday afternoon on the road against Concordia University-Ann Arbor – a team that beat both squads handily (9-0) just a short season ago.

Men - Freshman Hank Schemmel won in two sets in at #5 singles, scoring his team-high fifth victory of the season.  Freshmen Adam Green won his first collegiate tennis match along with partner Kaleb Underwood at #3 doubles, winning a tough match in a tiebreaker.  Freshman Thomas Hill would also win his first match in his college tennis career at #6 singles for the third and final flight win for the Tigers.

Women - Freshman Amiah Lake closed out the match with a win at #6 singles for the Tigers, their lone win in the women's match against a very solid Concordia team.  Senior Hailey Petty had a great effort at #4 singles, but fell in the end 6-4, 6-4.  The third doubles duo of Petty and Lake had another close call at #3 doubles, losing 8-6.

"I'm continually thankful for every player on our team and the fight they all show each match," commented Head Coach Ty Jansma.

Both teams close out the 2019 campaign next Friday in Indiana, with the men taking on Indiana University-South Bend and the women taking on Goshen College.
