Tigers add former All-American to coaching staff

The Grace men's basketball program is excited to welcome back former Tiger standout Zach Schutte, who steps into the role of JV Assistant Coach beginning in 2020-21.

Schutte and JV Head Coach Ryan Krombeen shared the court for three seasons in the Grace uniform from 2009-2012, each year ending as the NCCAA National Champions.  As a junior, Schutte was named to the NCCAA Nationals All-Tournament Team. As a senior, he surpassed the 1,000 career point total and was named 1st-Team All-Region and 2nd-Team All-American.

"I'm ecstatic to add Zach as an assistant coach for the upcoming year," said Krombeen. "I was fortunate enough to play with him for 3 years at Grace and we've remained friends ever since. I'm looking forward to having Zach not only as a coach, but as a spiritual leader for our players as well."

Since the end of his playing career, Schutte has coached at the middle school level for 5 years and coached JV basketball at Potters House HS in Wyoming for 2 seasons. He currently serves as a Bible teacher at Byron Center Christian School in addition to being to the school's athletic director. He resides in Kentwood, MI, with his wife Amy, who is also an exceptional former Tiger student-athlete.

"It is exciting to be back as a part of the Grace community," said Schutte. "I look forward to sharing the lessons and skills that I learned from my coaches with the players here. Coach Krombeen is a friend and excellent coach who I feel privileged to be assisting."
