Tigers win nail-biter, headed to National Championship

In their first year of qualifying for the NCCAA DII National Tournament, the Grace women's soccer team is heading to the final game after winning a nail-biter over former regional foe and #3 seeded Maranatha Baptist University.

Despite outshooting the Maranatha Baptist University Sabercats 30-4 in the semifinal, the Tigers were not able to punch in a goal, resulting in a 0-0 tie headed into overtime.  After 20 more minutes of scoreless play, the two teams would face off in a penalty kick-off, with some stiff implications – the winner would advance to the NCCAA DII National Championship.

All signs pointed to the penalty kicks going past the normal first five shooters when Maranatha's fifth kicker stepped up to the line with the Tigers up 4-3, but goalkeeper Megan McFarland had different plans, leaping for the game-winning save to lift the Tigers to the Championship.

The Championship will be played at 7:00 pm Saturday night against Bob Jones University, the #1 seed that has retained their #1 ranking since the beginning of the season.
