Tigers top #1 Johnson University TN in Regional Semis

Box Score Louisville, KY - If you are a fan of basketball in general, Friday night's 2021 Mideast Regional Semifinal game was a great one to watch. The heavyweight match-up between the #1 Johnson University Tennessee Royals and #4 Grace Christian University Tigers had all the ingredients of an instant-classic, including countless lead changes and an overall feel to the game that made it obvious that both teams did not want to go home.

After each team matched each other tit-for-tat in the first 20 minutes, the result was a 50-49 advantage for the Royals at the halftime break. Johnson would build a six point lead early in the second half, before a quick run from Grace including a drive and emphatic slam dunk from Spencer Grant would shift the momentum and give the Tigers a slim lead. For the next 10 minutes the game would remain within a possession or two, until Grace put together another run with 5:00 remaining to build their largest cushion of the game at 83-75. Though they struggled from the free throw line late in the game, they made the defensive stops necessary to hold off the Royals in the waning minutes, finishing things off with a 93-86 win.

Spencer Grant led the Tigers with 24 points, followed by Kierson Watts who added 21 points and 13 rebounds. Chandler Rivers had another quality performance on the offensive end for Grace, adding 18 points.

Grace advances to the Regional Championship tomorrow against #2 seed Great Lakes Christian College – a very familiar opponent for the Tigers in postseason play the past couple seasons. The game will tip-off at 3:00 pm after the Grace women take on Campbellsville-Harrodsburg at 12:00 pm in their respective championship.
