The Grace Christian University baseball team is excited to welcome in another quality addition to their 2022 recruiting class in 6'2" RHP/1B Sam DeVries. Sam, a standout at nearby Tri-Unity Christian High, is the son of Steve and Tina DeVries, and a brother to Grace, Carlee, and Emily.
Sam was a three-sport athlete for the Tri-Unity Christian Defenders, playing two years of varsity basketball and soccer and starting for three years on the varsity baseball team. He has earned All-Conference Honorable Mention and All-District honors as a first basemen and is currently in the midst of his senior season. In addition to high school ball, Sam played for the Grand Rapids Flames travel program.
"We are very excited for Sam to come on board," commented Grace Head Coach
Colton Wolfe. "He is an all-around quality young man as well as a talented pitcher and first baseman. The fall couldn't come soon enough!"
Sam commented on his decision to pursue his next steps at Grace, which includes pursuing a degree in Cyber Security in addition to competing on the baseball diamond.
"The relationship I built with Coach Wolfe was a huge part in my decision making process. Constant conversation and updates and information made me feel wanted by the baseball program and the option to be able to take a course at a partnering university make Grace Christian University the best option. It opened up the opportunity to explore things that fit my interests and hobbies to find a program perfect for me."
