Wyoming, MI - At the conclusion of the seasons for both the Grace Christian University baseball and softball teams, the two programs saw some recognition for a strong spring.Â
Softball
The softball team earned two spots on the NCCAA DI Midwest All-Region First Team:
Morgan Hall and
Kaliann Newberry.
Newberry batted an impressive .440 with 24 RBI and and OBP of .495, all of which led the team. Hall finished the year leading the team in hits with 41 and batted .418, second only to Newberry. Both players also went a perfect 8-8 each in stolen base attempts.
In addition to the first team nominations,
Kyra Kaboos and
Emma Balkema also earned All-Region Honorable Mention status.
Kaboos led the team in slugging percentage at .604, collecting a team leading 16 doubles and also 2 triples. Kaboos batted a solid .385 on the year with 22 RBI and 10 stolen bases as well.
Balkema performed well on both sides of the ball, batting .314 with 11 doubles and 12 stolen bases, and also firing 77.0 innings on the mound with 89 strikeouts.Â
Baseball
The baseball team earned two spots on the NCCAA DI Midwest All-Region Second Team:
Damian Fernandez and
Jared Garnaat
Fernandez showed off some pop this season with 75 total bases, leading the team in doubles (9), triples (2), and home runs (6). Damian batted .326 on the year with 26 stolen bases.
Garnaat batted a career best .351 as he led the team in hits (51) and stolen bases (30). Jared finished his career with a program record 106 stolen bases. In addition, Garnaat had a .426 OBP with 8 doubles and 4 home runs for his senior campaign.
Both programs are on the rise and continuing to improve each year both collectively and with individual standout players.Â
