Box Score 2 Hammond, IN - The Grace men's basketball team finished their weekend at Purdue Northwest University 1-1, falling to Holy Cross College (IN) 82-73 on Friday night and defeating the host school 87-70 on Saturday night.
Friday was a night plagued by foul trouble for the Grace frontcourt, as all four big men found themselves in foul trouble early and it lingered throughout the entire game. Â Sophomore
Austin Jackson led the Tigers with 16 points, followed by freshman
Adam Kregel and senior
Jared Bradford with 13 apiece.Â
"Our offense got a little stagnant at times and we couldn't find any kind of rhythm," commented head coach
Gary Bailey after game one. Â "Our defensive efforts were pretty good except for the first 8 minutes of the second half, where we had some missed assignments and gave up some easy baskets. Â Overall I was pleased with how hard the guys played and we definitely have a lot to build from."
Saturday night the team did build on their first effort and started to gel. Â It was a different story down low throughout the game, as Grace dominated the paint. Â Junior
Bernard Smith finished the game with a game-high 23 points and 19 rebounds. Â Jackson and Bradford followed with 17 points on the night.
In the other weekend games, UM-Dearborn defeated Holy Cross College (IN) 81-55, and Purdue Northwest defeated UM-Dearborn 82-67.
The Tigers will play in Gary, IN this upcoming Wednesday before returning home for the John F. Bailey Charity Tournament on Friday and Saturday.
