Gary, IN – The Grace men's basketball team upended the Red Hawks of Indiana University Northwest Wednesday night, 86-79, recording their second road victory in a row over an NAIA team in Indiana.
After falling behind to finish the first half, Grace put together a solid final 20 minutes to come away with the win. The spark from the bench proved to be the difference, as the Tiger bench outscored the Red Hawk bench 30-14, and they did it efficiently, shooting a combined 12-18 from the field.
Four Tigers finished the game in double figures, led by senior guard
Jared Bradford with 22 points. Sophomore
Caleb Anderson followed with 16, junior
Matt Jensen added 13, and sophomore
Austin Jackson had 12. Bradford also led the Tigers with 5 assists. Grace out-rebounded IUN 45-30, as Jackson,
Bernard Smith, and
Grant Garrison led the way pulling down 9, 8, and 7 rebounds, respectively.
"Our goal has been to get better every game," commented head coach
Gary Bailey. "Our first half tonight was a little sloppy at times but we did a better job of taking care of the ball and getting better shots in the second half. We all felt like it was another step towards being a pretty good team."
Friday the Tigers will face Dayspring College at 7:00 pm in their home opener at the Aldrich Athletic Center. Saturday they will be in action in either the championship or consolation game of the John F. Bailey tournament at 1:00 pm, which presents a potential rematch with Randall University (depending on Friday outcomes), who defeated the Tigers last year in the NCCAA final.
