Wyoming, MI - A very motivated Tigers squad took the court Saturday afternoon, as the opportunity was presented to face Randall University, the 2016 NCCAA National Champions. Grace would take a 12-9 lead early in the game on a three point field goal from freshman
Adam Kregel and they never looked back, finishing with a 90-80 victory.
The Tigers had a great defensive effort in the first half and shot relatively well to stretch their lead to as many as 11 points before Saints big man Isaac Bowles put in a two point basket to cut the Tigers' lead to 37-28 at the halftime break.
The first basket of the second half would come from the Saints, but Grace then put together a quick run that would give them a 17 point cushion just 3 minutes into the half. The two teams battled hard from that point on, but the Tigers were able to calmly handle the defensive pressure from Randall University and come away with the 10-point victory.
"I felt like we played pretty well and this is a good win," commented Head Coach
Gary Bailey. "There are still a lot of things that we need to fix. Our goal is to be at a certain place at the end of the year and this is only game 5."
Senior
Jared Bradford led the Tigers with 28 points, shooting 7-9 from the field and 3-3 from beyond the arc. He was followed by sophomore
Austin Jackson with 23. Junior
Bernard Smith had 12 points and pulled down 18 rebounds. Bradford and
Matt Jensen dished out 6 assists each. Both Bradford and Jackson were named to the All-Tournament team.
The Tigers return to their home floor for a very tough test next Tuesday against defending NAIA DII National Champion Indiana Wesleyan University.
