Wyoming, MI – The Tigers continue to roll in 2017 as they won their sixth straight game Saturday afternoon, topping Purdue Northwest University 86-75 at home. Purdue Northwest is a school of 16,000 students, currently in the NAIA but they will be going NCAA Division II next year and will be joining the GLIAC conference with Grand Valley and Ferris State University.
After falling behind early, the Tigers stormed back to build an eight point lead at the halftime break. The Pride closed the gap in the final half, but stellar play from sophomore forward
Austin Jackson and a couple huge defensive stops down the stretch helped propel the Tigers to the 11 point victory.
Jackson led the Tigers with 23 points and 11 rebounds. Junior
Bernard Smith added a double-double of his own with 11 points and 12 rebounds. Smith also surpassed the 1,000 career point milestone on a basket with under five minutes to go in the game. Senior
Jared Bradford continued his consistent production with 22 points and a team-high 6 assists.
"We are really playing well right now," commented Grace Head Coach
Gary Bailey. "We beat a very, very good team today. They had great players at every position and we're very athletic. We are just doing the things that we are capable of. As I said before, we can be a dangerous team if we continue to play this way."
The Tigers move to 13-9 on the season headed into their next match-up this upcoming Thursday night against Andrews University at 7:30 pm at home.
