Huge second half surge lifts Tigers over Red Hawks

Box Score

Wyoming, MI – The Grace men's basketball team downed one of the hottest teams in the NAIA Thursday night at the Aldrich Athletic Center in a dramatic, come from behind 92-86 win.

The Indiana University Northwest Red Hawks came into the game with six straight wins, and throughout the first half they looked like they were still riding the wave against the Tigers.  The Red Hawks would build a 17 point lead at 52-35 headed into the break.

The second half would not be an immediate turnaround for the Tigers, as they would fall to as many as 22 points behind before storming back for an electric comeback win.  From the 17 minute mark to the 8 minute mark, Grace would play perhaps their best basketball of the year thus far, going on a 23-point run to take the lead after a three-point basket from junior Marcus Chandler.  The game would stay competitive throughout, but the Tigers would do what they needed down the stretch to prevail 92-86.

It was a balanced effort, with senior Adam Rayner leading the Tigers with 16 points.  Ethan Kafila scored 15, while Grant Garrison had 14 and Brandon Winchester-Jones had 10.  Garrison also led the Tigers with 11 rebounds and 6 assists.

The Tigers move to 8-10 on the season, and they will be right back in action tomorrow afternoon against Goshen College in Indiana.  See the schedule page for live links.
