Box Score 2 Louisville, KY – The Grace Tigers continued their undefeated 2017 calendar year with two road wins over NCCAA II competition this past weekend. Friday they defeated Simmons College 74-60, and they followed up with an 85-70 win over Boyce College.
Grace shot the lights out in a 47-point victory over the Simmons College Falcons in their first match-up at home, but they knew the Falcons were a good team that could not be overlooked. This game would be closer throughout, but the Tigers would build a 20-point lead in the second half that was never in jeopardy, although they allowed four straight threes to end the game from the Falcons.
Freshman
Brandon Winchester-Jones led the Tigers with 13 points. Senior
Jared Bradford was the only other Tiger in double figures with 12, while junior
Bernard Smith pitched in 9 and pulled down 11 rebounds.
"Simmons shot the ball very well on their home court," commented Head Coach
Gary Bailey. "I was proud of our guys and their defensive effort, with the late threes being our only blemish."
Bailey mentioned that the Tigers would have to shoot better against a quality Boyce team the next day, and the Tigers did just that, knocking down 52% of their shots. In similar fashion to the win over Simmons, Grace would pull away in the second half for the double-digit victory.
Sophomore
Austin Jackson led the way with 23 points on an efficient 10-14 shooting. Bradford and Winchester-Jones had 17 and 12, respectively.
The two wins make 12 straight for the Tigers, currently sitting at 19-9 on the season. Grace returns to the hardcourt this Tuesday in Berrien Springs, MI, taking on an Andrews University team that they defeated on a last second shot at the Aldrich Athletic Center earlier this season.
