Men's Basketball

It's Championship Week!

Joplin, MO – Both the Grace Christian University men's and women's basketball teams have officially hit the road to Joplin, MO for the NCCAA DII National Tournament. This is the second straight year both teams have qualified, and both Grace Head Coaches are excited with the way their respective teams are playing heading into the National Tournament.

"Overall I am very happy with the way we have been playing and it's been some of the best basketball we have played so far," said women's Head Coach Ashley Xiong Vang. "We are looking forward to nationals and just blessed to even have the opportunity to attend the tournament. It's going to be a long journey but I believe we have the right team to compete for a national championship!"

"The guys that worked really hard and come together in an unbelievable way the last few weeks," commented men's Head Coach Gary Bailey. "It has been really fun to watch the maturity of this team continue to grow and change."

2021 National Tournament Seeding

It was announced on last week that both teams will be the #4 seed in their respective brackets, with the men starting things off on Wednesday, March 10, at 2:00 pm against #5 Arlington Baptist University and the women taking on #5 Maranatha Baptist University at 2:00 pm on Thursday, March 11.

It will be the first time the men's team has ever competed against Arlington Baptist, though the school from Arlington, Texas is a mainstay at the NCCAA DII National Tournament. The women have an extensive history with Maranatha Baptist, as the Sabercats were regional rivals once-upon-a-time (prior to the shuffling of NCCAA regions in 2017), and the Sabercats hold a 19-8 all-time advantage over the Tigers.
