Box Score 3 It was a momentous weekend for the Grace Christian University baseball team, as they traveled to Georgia to take the field for the first time as an official NCCAA collegiate program.
The Toccoa Falls College Eagles hosted the Tigers for a doubleheader on Friday and a single game on Saturday to cap things off, and the home team would prevail in all three. The games would not go without bright spots for the young Grace team, as they put runs on the board and built some momentum in all three games, despite not seeing an outdoor practice since the month of October. The games finished with final scores of 5-3, 9-5, and 15-5.
"I was really proud of the team's effort this weekend," commented Grace Head Coach
Colton Wolfe. "We gave Toccoa a pair of close games and never gave up in the third game. For such a young team to battle and hang with a well-established program, it shows a lot about the unity and maturity of these players. As we continue to get more games under our belt, and gain experience on the field, I can't wait to see what this team can do."
Final statistics are still pending from the host school as of now, but some notables from the weekend include the first officially recorded hit of the program coming on a triple by
Cooper Lake who finished the weekend 7-10 from the plate, a solo home run from
Carter Willis, 4 RBI from
Carter Hewitt, and a great outing from
Cole Crabtree to start the weekend with 3 innings pitched and only 1 hit given up.
Logan Hamstra and
Riley Nieswender also had quality outings on the mound, Hamstra throwing 4 scoreless innings and Nieswender throwing 5 innings with 3 ER.
The Tigers return to the field at Oakland City University on February 25
th and 26
th in Indiana.
